OVERVIEW
Directed by the legendary Mike Nichols and starring Tom Hanks, this film required transforming the Moroccan landscape into the jagged mountains of 1980s Afghanistan. The production built massive refugee camps and staged complex sequences involving Soviet military hardware.
CHALLENGES & APPROACH
Period Accuracy & High-Profile Management.
The challenge was dual: managing the logistics for thousands of extras in a recreated refugee camp while catering to the needs of a Tier-1 Hollywood cast. We had to source specific period props and materials (tents, vehicles) locally to match the 1980s setting. My role ensured that the procurement of these rare items was tracked meticulously, balancing the high costs of historical accuracy with studio budget caps.
THE RESULT
The film is cited for its seamless historical immersion. We successfully managed the heavy “period” spending, proving our ability to support serious political dramas with the same rigour as action blockbusters.
