OVERVIEW
This feature film marks a bold entry into the horror genre for Moroccan cinema. Directed by Jamal Belmejdoub, the story revolves around the terrifying discovery of a hidden object during a hotel renovation, unleashing paranormal forces (Jinn). The production required a high level of technical precision to create a sustained atmosphere of suspense and supernatural terror.
CHALLENGES & APPROACH
The Technical Demands of Horror.
Producing a horror film is fundamentally different from a drama. It relies heavily on “invisible” costs: complex lighting setups for night shoots, special effects makeup (SFX), and practical stunts. The challenge was to manage these technical line items without compromising the shooting schedule. My role was to closely monitor the budget allocation for the art and VFX departments, ensuring that the director had the resources to deliver genuine scares on screen.
THE RESULT
Premiered at the National Film Festival in Tangier, the film was praised for its production value and its daring exploration of the genre. It demonstrated my versatility in managing niche, technically demanding productions beyond standard formats.
