OVERVIEW
This gripping feature documentary tells the tragic true story of war correspondent Marie Colvin and photographer Paul Conroy in Syria. The production required recreating the besieged city of Homs in Morocco. Unlike standard documentaries, this project demanded feature-film quality set design and pyrotechnics to authentically depict the devastation of war.
CHALLENGES & APPROACH
Cinema Quality on a Doc Budget.
The challenge was balancing the visual ambition of a war movie with the financial constraints of a documentary. We had to be incredibly efficient with “production value,” ensuring that every dollar spent on explosives, rubble, and extras appeared on screen to create a visceral, immersive experience. My role was to strictly manage these “high-impact” costs without compromising the director’s need for absolute realism.
THE RESULT
The film was critically acclaimed for its intensity. We successfully delivered a cinematic war zone look, proving our ability to elevate documentary formats to the visual standard of narrative features.
